Effective July 1, 2026, the National Organic Program (NOP) has introduced 29 new Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for organic products. The new codes are designed to improve tracking of organic imports into the U.S. and strengthen oversight.
Key points:
- All organic imports filed with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on or after July 1, 2026 must use the new HTS codes and include a valid NOP Import Certificate (NOP-IC) number.
- Certifiers issuing NOP Import Certificates on or after July 1 must use the updated HTS codes.
- NOP Import Certificates issued before July 1, 2026 remain valid and do not need to be reissued simply because of the HTS code changes.
